Major project has artifacts traveling to new homes!

Thanks to a grant from the Astle-Alpaugh Family Foundation, a major project to catalog the collections stored at the Society’s archive building has been underway since March. As with many historical societies, often collections unrelated to the organization’s mission end up in collections’ storage. The Society is working to sort and research the provenance of hundreds of artifacts and when applicable–transfer objects to a more relevant home. This early silk flag was originally made in Valdez and has made its way back to Alaska and to the Valdez Museum.

Kevin Chu, Collections Manager of the Museum of Chinese in America in New York City, holds a pair of chopsticks from California dating to 1852 that were transferred to the Museum from the Society.
Archivist, Laura M. Poll, from the Trenton Free Library, Trentoniana Department, accepts a USS Trenton Banner among other Trentoniana artifacts from the Society for their collections on Trenton’s rich history.
