With today being Indigenous People's Day, it recalled to mind one of the most fascinating items in our collection. This is the pipe bowl that Leni-Lenape Chief Tuccamirgan gave to his “blue brother” Johan Philip Kaes (later Case) as a sign of their friendship. The Chief died in 1750 and is buried in the Case Family Cemetery off Bonnell St. in Flemington. More Photographs!The archives is pleased to announce the release of another small photograph collection: No. 235, the Prestoprine Photograph Collection, 1917-1935. This is a collection of photographs from the Flemington area, ca. 1917-1935. It details aspects of life within the town as well as the scenery of different locations. This collections offers insights into Flemington, New Jersey, whether it is by examining the individuals or the events that surround the town in the early 1900s. GOING, GOING, GONE...into history! The HCHS Archives team is pleased to announce a new collection release! This one is Collection No. 228; the Arthur Hanna Auction Records, 1971-2008. This collection includes 8 boxes containing 29 loose leaf binders of auction records of Arthur Hanna, Auctioneers of Milford, NJ and later Bloomsbury, NJ.Each loose leaf binder is listed as a folder in the container list, and each binder contains the records of 50 (+ -) auctions. Each auction is documented with a page of as many as 6 classified advertisements listing the consigner(s), date and location of the sale, and a fairly detailed listing of the items to be sold. Each auction also had a settlement page giving the name and address of the consignor, gross sale proceeds, auctioneer's commission (10%), cost of help, cost of advertising, and the net proceeds paid to the consignor.The collection would be of interest to anyone researching a specific seller or sales in a particular community; it would also be of interest to social scientists studying household wealth and possessions.
