OFF TO THE RACES, AGAIN...in newly released archival collection No. 237, Flemington Speedway Slide Images from 1960. Remember the days when August would make one think of the county fair and the races at the Speedway? This collection is composed of 17 slides; images of photographs taken at Flemington Speedway, Flemington, NJ. Some of the images are of sprint cars and races, from Labor Day, 1960. The other images are from November of 1960. The collection is interesting as it shows racing, infield scenes, crashes, and towing at the Speedway on a race day in 1960. I am sure there are more extensive collections of photographs about the Speedway and the races there from other institutions (including the Flemington Speedway Historical Society), but I wanted to make sure these were processed and posted for something a little different in our own collections. HIRAM E. DEATS may have passed away almost 60 years ago, but his contribution to Hunterdon County Genealogy never dies. Our latest collection release is No. 227; Deats Bequest Genealogical Notes. It is a boring name, but the one box of the collection includes correspondence, family records, deeds, recorded bible records, mortgages, and genealogical notes concerning the Stevenson, Kester, Taylor, Young, and Hulsizer families. ca. 1770-1940.It appears that most of the families with records within this collection had some relationship to the tract of land owned by Frank Jala called Jala Farm in Bethlehem Township. While the blueprint of the property is not included there is a hand drawn map attached to the "research Notes of Deed Searches: Land Parcels" These records list the particulars of land transactions.
