Student Projects Compete for Cash: Deadline December 31, 2024!
Hunterdon County students are invited to earn cash prizes by writing essays about American history. Or they can submit poems, music, lyrics, or skits. Artists, dancers, musicians, dollmakers, and engineers are invited to participate, too.
The competition is sponsored by the Hunterdon County Historical Society and the local chapter of the Sons of the Revolution. Deadline is Dec. 31, 2024. Prizes will be awarded to Hunterdon students or homeschoolers in each of three categories:
- $250 for an original essay up to 800 words on any aspect of the American Revolution by a Hunterdon County student or homeschooler of high school age.
- $250 for an original essay up to 800 words on any aspect of the American Revolution by a Hunterdon County student or homeschooler of pre-high-school age.
- $250 for an original expression of any sort – artistic, musical, scientific, technological, engineering, mathematical, or other – about the American Revolution by a Hunterdon student or homeschooler of any age up through high school. We encourage musical performances and compositions; dramatic expressions; paintings; drawings; skits; video presentations and performances suitable for YouTube; calligraphy; sewing, and more. In short, almost anything at all.
Extra credit will be awarded for entries that mention Hunterdon County’s role in the Revolution. Home address, parental permission, and parental phone numbers are required, along with student’s name and age or grade.
At first the contest was for essays only, but the popularity of the show “Hamilton” convinced organizers to include musical or dramatic performances, paintings, poems, pottery, videos, and other creative ideas.
Written entries should be submitted before Dec. 31, 2024. Please email essays or photos of art projects to hunterdonhistory1885@gmail.com.
If you wish to submit a video of a musical or dramatic performance, or of a large art installation, please email hunterdonhistoryadm@gmail.com first for our Dropbox link.
