My latest post gives a summary of the early history of the Amwell Church of the Brethren, often known as the Dunkard Church, in Delaware Township. The church is located on Dunkard Church Road, of course, at the intersection with Sand Brook-Headquarters Road, and has been standing there since 1811, although the congregation was organized in 1733. It is the story of how the German “New Baptists” left Westphalia to settle first in Germantown, Pa, and then in Amwell Township, and includes a harrowing journey across the Atlantic.
