Marfy This Month
We are starting a new monthly segment, “Marfy This Month”. You may remember Marfy Goodspeed, a Hunterdon County resident since 1976, is a historian and Society member. She started a business, Goodspeed House Histories, in 1981 that has taught her about early county residents, and as a member of the Delaware Township Planning Board and the Delaware & Raritan Canal Commission gained an understanding of historical geography. She writes articles for the Society’s newsletter, and has a website called GoodspeedHistories.com
These are her latest:
- An article on one of Hunterdon’s first settlers, Samuel Green and his wife Sarah Bull. The Greens of Amwell. Although Green moved north to Sussex County by 1738, he left his adult children behind in Amwell, and their descendants in Hunterdon County are numerous.
- A short history of New Jersey’s beginnings How New Jersey Began and a strange tale it is.What prompted me to do this is:
- This is the 350th anniversary of New Jersey, so it seemed like some sort of acknowledgement was in order, and,
- I have been researching the farm of Alfred Leroy Pauch, and have found it to be a really terrific history for Delaware Township. Roy has given me permission to publish his history, or at least an adaptation of it, on my website, and since all house histories start with the creation of NJ, this seemed like a good place to start.
- latest publication on one of Egbert T. Bush’s articles on Harmony School, once a very well-known landmark on Rte 579 south of Boarshead Road.
